Mobile Vocal Arts – an intergenerational Choral Society opportunity offered to the residents of Mobile and Baldwin Counties – is beginning its 27th season on Monday, August 18th, 2025.
This choral organization has given performances in Carnegie Hall and in European capitals on several occasions. Membership in the Choral Society is open to all interested individuals who love to sing and who are open to performing a wide range/variety of music genre/concerts. There is NO membership fee.
Rehearsals are held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church located at 1050 Azalea Road in Mobile. Rehearsals begin at 7:00 p.m. Mobile Vocal Arts prepares and presents approximately – five to six concerts in their ten and a half-month season that begins in late August and runs to late June.

Lydia Newton will present a guest artist violin recital on Tuesday, August 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. Newton, a third year DMA student at the Eastman School of Music, will perform this guest recital that includes music of Boulanger, Debussy, Prokofiev, and Fauré. Joining Newton will be USA faculty pianist Dr. Robert Holm.

Our MAC Members Show opens this July, celebrating the incredible talent of 81 local artists in an exhibition that will be on view July 9–August 27, 2026.
Join us for the opening reception during LoDa ArtWalk on Friday, July 10, from 6–9 p.m. at the Mobile Arts Council Gallery, Room 1927, 6 S. Joachim Street, downtown Mobile.
Made possible through support from the National Endowment for the Arts and Dempsey & Litchfield, this juried exhibition showcases a wide variety of artistic styles, mediums, and perspectives. Award winners—including First, Second, Third, two Honorable Mentions, and the Dempsey & Litchfield Award—will be announced during our MAC Members' Appreciation Celebration on August 14.
MAC members are also invited to vote throughout July for their favorite artwork to determine this year's Members' Choice Award.
Whether you're a longtime collector, an art enthusiast, or simply looking for something inspiring, there's something for everyone to discover in this exhibition.

You bring the book. We've got the BLING!

Join us for a sparkly afternoon at The Haunted Book Shop as we celebrate Bookstore Romance Day on August 15th, 4-6pm, with BOOK BEDAZZLING! Whether you are new to book bedazzling or a sparkling pro, we've got you covered. So, to celebrate the genre we love that's all about love, you are invited to join your fellow book and crafting enthusiasts, especially romance fans, to cover your favorite book cover with rhinestones. Yes, for one special afternoon, we are turning our shop at 9 S Joachim St. into an art studio and you the artist!

Advance ticket purchase is required for this event. Your ticket gets you a deluxe bedazzling kit including gems, wax pencil, scoop, tweezers, tray, and glue, all organized for ease of use. Worried that you may not finish your book cover masterpiece during the event? Don't! The kit is yours to keep so that you can take your work-in-progress home to finish with all the supplies and tools you need.

This event is all about friendship - old and new - the books we love, and sparkling creativity. Bring the book you wish to bedazzle and cozy up for an afternoon of crafting and sparkles.

Not a romance reader? No worries! We'd love to bedazzle with you, too. Bring your favorite fantasy, mystery, thriller, literary…any genre, any book cover!

Young artists in grades 4-5 work in a variety of mediums such as paint, clay, charcoal, and ink. They will practice and expand on their skills in drawing, color theory, art history, studio maintenance, and how to formally evaluate their own artwork and the artwork of others.

Young artists in grades 2-3 explore a variety of artistic mediums, practice creative thinking and problem solving, develop new tools for self-expression, and, most importantly, have fun making art! Our teaching artist will guide young artists through projects tailored to their age and skill levels to help them develop as artists and build important creative skills.
